Samenvatting
Dit rapport beschrijft de resultaten van het Strategisch Onderzoek RIVM (SOR) programma 2011-2014. Het SOR-budget is bedoeld om het RIVM te voorzien van de benodigde expertise en kwaliteit. Daarmee kan het nu en in de toekomst zijn taken goed uitvoeren en zo bijdragen aan een gezonde bevolking in een gezonde leefomgeving. SOR-projecten worden in een cyclus van vier jaar uitgevoerd. In de beschreven periode is ongeveer € 45 miljoen besteed, aan in totaal 107 projecten. De resultaten hebben bijgedragen aan de kennisen expertiseontwikkeling en aan de wetenschappelijke status van het RIVM. Het programma heeft ook de internationale samenwerking versterkt. Resultaten Van de zeven speerpunten waaronder de projecten zijn gegroepeerd, wordt weergegeven welke inhoudelijke doelen zijn gehaald, zoals nieuwe kennis over gezond ouder worden, het gebruik van nieuwe technologie voor de leefomgeving en de volksgezondheid en de ontwikkeling van nieuwe modellen om gezondheidsrisico's en risico's voor de leefomgeving te beoordelen. Concrete resultaten van SOR-projecten zijn bijvoorbeeld de tekenapp en iSPEX. Met behulp van de tekenapp kun je teken herkennen, leer je hoe je ze moet verwijderen en kun je een gevonden teek melden zodat er onderzoek naar kan worden gedaan. iSPEX is een nieuwe methode om fijnstof te meten met behulp van een iPhone. In beide projecten was de interactie met de burger een belangrijk facet. De wetenschappelijke impact van de publicaties is hoog, gemeten aan de vooraf gestelde doelen. De wetenschappelijke impact is een maat voor de kennisontwikkeling, die wordt gemeten aan de hand van publicaties (242) in wetenschappelijke tijdschriften. Daarnaast is een groot aantal andere producten, zoals rapporten, proefschriften, databases en presentaties op internationale congressen opgeleverd. Abstract
This report describes the results of an evaluation of RIVM's Strategic Research Programme (SOR) for the 2011-2014 period. The SOR budget is aimed at providing RIVM with the required expertise and quality, so that it can perform its tasks effectively both now and in the future, thus contributing to a healthy population and a healthy human environment. SOR projects are carried out in a four-year cycle.
During the period surveyed, a total of 107 projects were carried out at a total cost of approx. 45 million euro. The research results contributed to knowledge and expertise development, and helped enhance RIVM's status in the scientific community. The programme also strengthened international collaboration.
Results
The projects have been categorized under seven 'spearheads'. For each spearhead, the report specifies the substantive aims achieved, such as 'new knowledge on healthy ageing', 'use of new technologies to improve public health and the quality of the human environment', or 'development of new models for assessing health risks and risks affecting the human environment'. Concrete results of SOR projects include the 'Ticks App' and the iSPEX method. With the Ticks App, users can recognize ticks, learn how to remove them, and report ticks for further research. iSPEX is a new method for measuring particulate matter concentrations using an iPhone. Interaction with members of the public was a key aspect of both projects.
The scientific impact of RIVM's publications is high when assessed against predefined targets. 'Scientific impact' is a measure for knowledge development, which was quantified based on the number of publications in scientific journals (242 during the period surveyed). In addition, RIVM's activities resulted in numerous other products, including reports, theses, databases and presentations at international conferences. 'Social impact' is a measure of the benefits that RIVM's research yields for society, and was determined based on the extent to which the research results were used in subsequent projects, guidelines or legislation.
