English Abstract
The RIVM screening laboratory is one of seven Dutch laboratories that perform the so-called combined test for Down syndrome, Edward's syndrome and Patau syndrome on pregnant women. This report describes the quality indicators of the combined tests performed by this laboratory. In 2015, the tests met the determined quality requirements. Based on this conclusion, there are no required recommendations for improvements.

The combined test determines the risk of these syndromes by measuring a hormone and a protein, combined with an ultrasound scan measuring the nuchal translucency, and the age of the mother. In 2015, RIVM performed 12,258 combined tests. The percentage of 'high risk' results was somewhat lower than in 2014. The 'high risk' percentages for Edward's syndrome and Patau's syndrome were essentially similar to the previous year.

This time, we have described both the annual quality indicators and the performance of the combined test based on tests performed by the RIVM in the Utrecht and Leiden regions in the period from 2013 to 2015.

The RIVM screening laboratory performs the combined test for the Stichting Prenatale Screening Regio Utrecht (SPSRU, the regional centre for prenatal screening for the Utrecht region) and the Regionaal Centrum Prenatale Screening noordelijk Zuid Holland (RCNZH, the regional centre for prenatal screening for the northern part of Zuid Holland).
