English Abstract Annual consumption of ten classes of food and drink is
reported for total population of each of the countries. National food
consumption data are generalized by distinguishing three groups of countries
with a similar diet. Further, changes in food consumption related to
differences in age, sex, social class, regional habits and level of
urbanisation are reported. Variation caused by these factors ranged from 50
to 200% of the amounts consumed by the general
population.
