English Abstract In this report pressure points in the accessibility of
the Dutch health care system for different socio-economic groups are
reviewed. It is concluded that as to equal access the system in general
performs well. However, there are some noticeable differences in
utilisation between socio-economic groups (e.g. contacts with GP's and
physicians, psycho-social care, surgery) that may point to differences in
accessibility between these groups. The observed differences seem to be
linked to cultural aspects of accessibility (information gap, effective
utilisation of resources), rather than financial aspects. Future research,
including improvement of data collection and registration, is needed to
monitor the accessibility of the system in the coming
years.
Rapport in het kort
In dit rapport is de toegankelijkheid van de
gezondheidszorg voor groepen met verschillende sociaal-economische status
onderzocht. Geconcludeerd wordt dat over het algemeen de toegankelijkheid
goed is. Er zijn echter wel verschillen in zorggebruik naar
sociaal-economische status gevonden - o.a. in contacten met huisartsen,
geneesmiddelengebruik, psychosociale hulpverlening en chirurgische zorg -
die mogelijk duiden op verschillen in toegankelijkheid van zorg voor de
onderscheiden groepen. Deze verschillen lijken echter meer te maken te
hebben met culturele aspecten van toegankelijkheid (informatie deficient of
ineffectief gebruik) dan met financiele belemmeringen. Investering in
monitoring en nader onderzoek, incl. verbetering van dataverzameling en
registratie, is gewenst om de toegankelijkheid van de zorg in de komende
jaren te kunnen volgen.
