English Abstract This report describes a study to establish criteria for
small quantities of chemical waste from households and similar sources like
shops and offices (in the English literature often referred to as hazardous
household waste). A system was developed to indicate if these small
quantities of potential hazardous waste from households and simular sources
should in fact be regarded as chemical waste. In this system aspects like
present legislation on chemical waste, environmental impact, etc. were
considered. The study recommends providing information on the exact
composition of products used in households. Besides this a standard test
procedure is recommended to determine the biological degradability of
products often used with water in households and discharged into the sewage
system.
