English Abstract
In the last few years, the emissions of radioactive substances to air and water through the operations of Dutch enterprises have decreased substantially, mostly due to the closure of two ore- and raw material-processing industries. Nevertheless, the processing industries are still responsible for the largest industrial contribution to the average radiation dose in the Netherlands, which is much larger than the contribution from the nuclear industry and hospitals. During operations with radiation and radioactive sources to check welding or industrial processes (the so-called non-destructive testing), the dose per recording may, especially for relatively small industrial premises, be higher than assumed in the Decree on radiation protection. Therefore, in practice, the dose limit may be locally exceeded. The categories with relatively high percentages for exposed workers for whom the yearly dose was in excess of 1 milliSievert include intervention radiology, nuclear applications, non-destructive testing using mobile equipment, isotope production and aviation.On commission of the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, RIVM reports yearly on the human-induced radiation doses in the Netherlands. This report describes these doses in the last decade in relation to those in the current radiation and permit granting policy. For the first time, this annual report also includes occupational exposure to ionising radiation. At the request of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, The Nuclear Research and consultancy Group (NRG) has written a chapter on this subject in the report.

De uitstoot van radioactieve stoffen door Nederlandse ondernemingen is de laatste jaren fors afgenomen, vooral door de sluiting van twee erts en grondstof verwerkende bedrijven uit de procesindustrie. De procesindustrie blijft echter verantwoordelijk voor de grootste industriele bijdrage aan de gemiddelde stralingsbelasting in Nederland, beduidend groter dan die door de nucleaire industrie en ziekenhuizen. Bij activiteiten waarbij straling en radioactieve stoffen worden gebruikt voor het controleren van bijvoorbeeld lasnaden of bedrijfsprocessen, het niet-destructief onderzoek, zou vooral bij een beperkte terreingrootte de dosis per opname groter kunnen zijn dan in het Besluit Stralingsbescherming is verondersteld. In de praktijk zou daardoor een lokale overschrijding van de dosislimiet kunnen optreden. Werknemers die gemiddeld blootstaan aan een stralingsdosis boven de 1 milliSievert per jaar zijn te vinden in de sectoren: interventie rontgenologie, nucleaire toepassingen, niet-destructief onderzoek met mobiele opstellingen, isotopenproductie voor bijvoorbeeld radiofarmaca en de luchtvaart.Het RIVM maakt jaarlijks voor het ministerie van VROM een inventarisatie van de stralingsbelasting die het menselijk handelen toevoegt aan de achtergrondstraling. Dit rapport beschrijft deze toegevoegde stralingsbelasting over de afgelopen 10 jaar in relatie tot het gevoerde stralingsbeschermingsbeleid en de handhaving. Voor het eerst zijn dit jaar ook gegevens over de beroepsmatige blootstelling aan straling opgenomen. NRG heeft in opdracht van het ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid hierover een hoofdstuk geschreven.
