Annemiek van Bolhuis, Director Public Health and Health Services at RIVM.
Originally trained as a nurse and political scientist, followed by an MBA, Annemiek van Bolhuis has over 20 years’ experience in (international) public service and occupied a number of top level positions.
Annemiek van Bolhuis started her career in the field of drugs. First as a socio-therapist and team leader at the Jellinek, the Institute for addiction care in Amsterdam. The next step was a position as a programme officer for the UN Drug Programme (UNODC) in the Caribbean for a number of years and later she became the Coordinator for International Drug Policy at the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
After several interim management positions within the Health, Welfare and Sport Ministry, she became Director of International Affairs in 2002, with the Dutch EU Presidency (2002) as the main task.
Annemiek van Bolhuis became a well-known face for RIVM employees when she took up her next position as Director of Nutrition, Health Protection and Prevention, and Deputy Director General Health and Sport.
Before joining the RIVM, she was on a 3-year secondment to the Headquarters of the World Health Organization as a Strategic Advisor. Her work focused on connecting people, programmes and products, from pre-conception into old age, with a particular emphasis on women and children.
