1 January saw the launch of the ANVS. The ANVS combines many of the Dutch government’s tasks in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection in one independent authority. RIVM is the regular knowledge provider for the ANVS.

The new authority will draft legislation, develop safety requirements, issue permits, carry out inspection and provide information. The ANVS will also be jointly responsible for emergency preparedness in the event of incidents which could result in the release of radiation.

The ANVS complies with international guidelines, including those imposed by the International Atomic Energy Agency and collaborates closely with national and international organisations.

RIVM acts as a regular ANVS partner for several tasks relating to radiation protection. These are tasks such as nuclear emergency preparedness and response, field and laboratory measurements and policy support.
