Investigations on the occurrence of ochratoxin A in animal feeds

Onderzoek naar het voorkomen van ochratoxine A in voedermiddelen

Synopsis

During a period of 2 years (June 1992 - June 1994) investigations were done on the occurrence of ochratoxin A in two types of animal feeds. The samples were drawn from all over the country and originated from lots to be used for poultry (53 samples) and pigs (129 samples). In approximately 11% of the samples of feeds for poultry and only 2% for pigs was ochratoxin A quantifiable at mass fractions above 1,5 mug/kg. The results are encouraging, particularly if compared with published data on occurrence of ochratoxin A in feeds in other countries. Besides, the levels found are below the tolerance levels for ochratoxin A in feeds found in countries that have legislation on this topic.
