RIVM Report 715810012
In 1994 the Memorandum on the Intervention values for soil clean-up was presented to the Lower House of the Dutch government. These intervention values for soil clean-up became operative after approval by the Lower House. In the process occurring between the first human-toxicological and ecotoxicological-based reports (RIVM report nos. 725101001, 725201006 and 725201007), falling under the proposals for the intervention values, adjustments/changes were made in models, parameters and data, which have never been published. Another reason for this was the TCB-advice (TCB report no 92/A 01). This report offers the reconstruction of the (changes/adjustments in the) data, models and parameters. It was ascertained that for six compounds the water solubility had been used with the wrong unit. This has consequences for the human-toxicological, serious soil contamination concentration calculated, and in several cases, also for the intervention values for soil and/or groundwater. The variation found in the literature for several of the physico-chemical parameters (water solubility, vapor pressure and octanol-water partition coefficient) also has consequences for the calculated intervention values. For a limited number of compounds changes are suggested for the proposals for the intervention values for soil (dichloromethane, pyridine, cyclohexanone, terahydrofuran) and groundwater (carbaryl, carbofuran, pyridine, tetrahydrofuran, tetrahydrothiophene and chrysene). Proposals for propoxur are also possible, on the basis of the data collected.
