Site characteristics for succession phases of nature target types determined with the computermodel 'Nature planner'

Standplaatskenmerken voor successiestadia van natuurdoeltypen berekend met de Natuurplanner. NEM deelproject 1.7 (abiotisch)

Synopsis

Three Institutes, Statistics Netherlands (CBS), National Reference Centre for Nature management (IKC-N) and National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) together are coordinating the Network Ecological Monitoring (NEM) to gather relevant information for the government about the state of the nature in the Netherlands. IBN-DLO has selected 36 nature target types, together with the vegetation types that will occur during the process of succession. In the research described in this report (NEM subproject 1.7 abiotic) the abiotic conditions required by these vegetation types are calculated using the computer program SMART/MOVE. This provides an easy way to determine wether the vegetation is developing in the right direction. Several nature target types have ranges in abiotic conditions which do not overlap at all. With many, however, more or less overlap occur. In this report was determined to which extent a distinction was possible on the basis of the three ranges of soil-pH, moisture and nutrient content.
