An Exposure/Uptake Assessment Database for Consumer Products: Design and implementation

Een database voor een blootstellingsanalyse voor consumentenproducten: ontwerp en implementatie

Synopsis

In order to provide default values for the exposure/uptake assessment of consumer products, consumer products were categorised into a limited number of sections and an inventory of available data was made. Results have been published in a former report. A database makes these data available for computer applications. The present report describes the design of the data-model and generation of a relational database using a CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tool. Several applications were developed in order to maintain the contents as well as the referential integrity of the database. The central entity in the data-model is the product. The product is linked to contact, exposure and uptake scenarios both directly, if specific data are available, and indirectly via the product category, if defaults are needed. The product is also linked to a number of entities containing further information, such as its composition, its producer and literature references to the product.
