Hester (dot) Korthals (dot) Altes (at) rivm (dot) nl
In this position, Hester Korthals Altes has modeled diverse
aspects of tuberculosis transmission to understand the impact of
control measures on the disease dynamics. Models range from simple
statistical models in the context of cost-effectiveness studies
(BCG vaccination in risk-groups), through stochastic models of
spread to quantify the impact of interventions (contact-tracing
versus screening), to time series analyses.
More generally, she is interested in tackling public health-related issues for infectious diseases with a complex immunological component (such as HIV and TB), leading to counter-intuitive dynamics at both the individual and population level.
