Nutrition, Medicines and Consumer Safety Division investigates the health impacts of food, pharmaceuticals and chemical substances, and the safety of medical technology and consumer products.

Tasks
RIVM monitors trends and developments in food safety, healthy diet, medicines and consumer products. What substances are people exposed to? What are the potential health effects? What substances are safe and what pose potential risks to human health and wellbeing? What are the potential interventions?

RIVM advises on the quality of pharmaceuticals for human and veterinary use prior to registration and market authorisation.

Various methods are used in studies and investigations including laboratory analyses, clinical trials, modelling, dossier evaluation and desk studies.

Clients and partners
This division works exclusively for public sector organisations: national government, ministries and their inspectorates, regional and local authorities, and other government agencies such as the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board.
