News What are the positive and negative points of our diets
here in the Netherlands? How clean is our drinking water? Can a
company simply claim that a product is good for our health? What
bacteria are responsible for food poisoning? And how does our diet
measure up?
This website supplies information outlining the RIVM’s tasks
related to food and drinking water. Here information is offered on
minimalising risks of food contamination, the role of diet and
exercise in striving for good health. Information is also collected
on allergies for an array of substances found in the food we
consume.
As a research institute and centre of expertise, RIVM advises and
supports policy-makers and professionals in their respective fields
of work. The RIVM reports both positive and negative aspects of
certain foods to the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport in the
Netherlands. One example here is the report, ‘Ons eten gemeten’
report (in Dutch) with an English-language summary, ‘Measuring
Dutch meals’. The RIVM also supports the Food and Consumer Product
Safety Authority (VWA) by taking measures to combat foodborne
infections. Considerable information has also been collected for
the non-professionals in all these areas. |
