Abstract

Streptococci are ubiquitous micro-organisms in man and animals. This literature search is restricted to those species which are found in slaughter animals and can cause disease in humans. Infections with S.zooepidemicus and S.suis can be considered as zoonotic infections. However, the consumption of meat has never led to a streptococcal infection in man. Eradication of S.zooepidemicus and S.suis in animals will prevent infections with these micro-organisms in man.
