English Abstract The Annual Plan 2010 includes the main areas of research of the Center for Infectious Disease Control (BIb) in the year 2010. The plan contains the control of infectious diseases in all its facets. The mission of the CIb of the RIVM is infectious disease identification and prevention to sustain public health in the Netherlands. The Annual Plan 2010 describes the work that the CIb does to implement its core tasks. To create insight in the infectious disease control, the CIb identifies relevant developments and promotes interventions. This process is illustrated in the annual plan with an explanation on the following topics: the National Vaccination Program, Zoonoses, Antibiotic resistance and Health care related infections, Respiratory infections and International infectious disease control. Within the themes several areas of research will be highlighted. The core tasts of the CIb are: - Understanding infectious diseases through diagnosis, surveillance and research; - Informing the national government on prevention and strengthening of vigilance. Rapid response during outbreaks is possible through a solid coordination of the infectious disease control, international cooperation and a overview on the implementation of the National Vaccination Program; - Create effective infectious disease control and prevention by advising professionals and ministries, by means of granting research funds and by providing the public with information.

Het werkplan 2010 bevat de plannen van het Centrum voor Infectieziektenbestrijding (CIb) in het jaar 2010. Hierin komt de bestrijding van infectieziekten in Nederland in al zijn facetten aan bod. De missie van het CIb) van het RIVM is infectieziekten signaleren, bestrijden en voorkomen voor de volksgezondheid in Nederland. Het Werkplan 2010 beschrijft de werkzaamheden die het CIb uitvoert om de bij deze missie bijbehorende kerntaken te kunnen vervullen. Om het inzicht in de infectieziektebestrijding te vergroten signaleert het centrum relevante ontwikkelingen en bevordert het interventies. Dit proces wordt in het werkplan geillustreerd met een toelichting op de volgende thema's: het Rijksvaccinatieprogramma, Zoonosen, Antibioticaresistentie en zorggerelateerde infecties, Respiratoire infecties en Internationale infectieziektebestrijding. Binnen de thema's worden bovendien verschillende onderzoeksgebieden uitgelicht. De kerntaken van het CIb zijn: - Inzicht krijgen in de infectieziekten door middel van diagnostiek, surveillance en wetenschappelijk onderzoek; - De overheid landelijk te informeren over preventie, versterken van waakzaamheid. Bij uitbraken is snel reageren mogelijk door de infectieziektebestrijding te coordineren, internationaal samen te werken en door regie uit te voeren op het Rijksvaccinatieprogramma; - Een effectieve infectieziektebestrijding- en preventie bevorderen door professionals en ministeries te adviseren, door onderzoekssubsidies te verlenen en door het publiek voor te lichten.
