Green infrastructure and water improve health and quality-of-life in cities. These kinds of benefits are often given insufficient attention within the framework of urban development with economic benefits taking precedence. The TEEB City Tool makes it possible to calculate the societal value of green infrastructure and water. The tool has now been updated, and several additional benefits have been added.

The previous version of the TEEB City Tool dates from October 2015. The new version contains new or updated key figures. These figures are used to estimate the effect of a measure in terms of physical units followed by monetary units. A description is given of which key figures were selected from the scientific literature and why.

The tool has also been expanded to include a large number of new calculations, such as the effect of green infrastructure on air-quality, on the capacity of the soil to store rainwater, and on the storage of carbon dioxide in trees. In order to ensure that the tool remains relevant, it is recommended to update the calculations of the benefits each year. Suggestions are also made regarding the development of the tool in the future.

TEEB, an acronym for The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, is a global initiative dating from 2007 that is facilitated by the United Nations. It aims to recognize and record the value of ecosystem services and biodiversity. The TEEB City Tool was developed in 2013. Since 2016, it has been managed by RIVM as part of the Atlas Natural Capital.

Groen en water vergroten de gezondheid en het woonplezier in de steden. Bij stedelijke ontwikkeling is er vaak onvoldoende aandacht voor dit soort baten en krijgen economische baten voorrang. Met de TEEB Stadtool kan de maatschappelijke waarde van groen en water in steden worden berekend. De tool is nu geactualiseerd en er zijn enkele baten aan toegevoegd.

De vorige versie van de TEEB Stadtool komt uit oktober 2015. De nieuwe versie bevat nieuwe of geactualiseerde 'kengetallen'. Deze getallen worden gebruikt om het effect van een maatregel in te schatten in natuurlijke en vervolgens monetaire eenheden. Beschreven is welke kengetallen uit de wetenschappelijke literatuur zijn geselecteerd en waarom.

Verder is de tool uitgebreid met een groot aantal nieuwe berekeningen, zoals voor het effect van groen op luchtkwaliteit, de berging van regenwater in de bodem en de opslag van koolstofdioxide door bomen. Om de tool relevant te houden wordt geadviseerd om de berekeningen van de baten elk jaar te actualiseren. Bovendien worden suggesties gedaan over de ontwikkeling van de tool in de toekomst.

TEEB, The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, is een wereldwijd initiatief uit 2007 dat wordt gefaciliteerd door de Verenigde Naties. Het is erop gericht de waarde van ecosysteemdiensten en biodiversiteit te erkennen en vast te leggen. De TEEB Stadstool is in 2013 ontwikkeld in wordt sinds 2016 beheerd door het RIVM, als onderdeel van de Atlas Natuurlijk Kapitaal.
