English Abstract
PFAS compounds are released in approximately the same degree from three types of soils. This was the conclusion of a study carried out by RIVM and Deltares. The study looked at the differences between soil coming from dry land, from a waterbed (dredging spoil), and from river floodplains (areas outside the dikes that are flooded when the water level rises).

PFAS substances (polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl substances) are generally found in low concentrations in the soil and in dredging spoil. In order to prevent these substances from spreading further through the environment, soil and dredging spoil that contain PFAS must comply with certain requirements before they can be used. Soil and dredging spoil are used, for example, for so-called applications beneath surface water. An example of this is their use in making bodies of water shallower where sand and clay were once extracted. In this type of application beneath surface water, two very commonly occurring PFAS (PFOS and PFOA) are released in approximately the same degree from the three types of soils that were investigated.
