English Abstract Methane and Nitrous Oxide are imported greenhouse
gases. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change calls for
a monitoring of emissions of greenhouse gases and for action programmes to
reduce these emissions. An international workshop was held in the
Netherlands in February 1993 with two main objectives: 1. to support the
development of an internationally agreed methodology and reporting format
for National emission inventories as coordinated by IPCC's science working
group and the OECD. This workshop concentrated on emissions of methane and
nitrous oxide. 2. the development of technical options for reduction of
these greenhouse gases and the assessment of the socio-economic feasibility
of these options. These proceedings contain presentations and the results
of discussions on main sources of these greenhouse gases: oil and gas, coal,
ruminants, animal waste, landfills and sewage, combustion and industry,
rice, biomass burning and soils.
