English Abstract This report describes the results of an exchange
project in the framework of the Human Capital Mobility Programme (HCMP).
The work was performed at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy.
The goal of the project was to develop a method for the off-line
supercritical fluid extraction and separation of dioxins and planar PCBs in
fish with active carbon used as trapping material. JRC was supporting
experiences with the SFE of PCBs in fatty matrices and RIVM-LOC was
supporting experiences with the SFE of PCBs in soil and the knowledge about
the conventional extraction of dioxins and planar PCBs in all kind of
matrices. The development of the carbon trapping was performed in three
steps. First the off-line determination of the minimal amount of carbon
necessary to trap dioxins and planar PCBs. The second step was to use the
trap of the instrument to trap the components in a semi on-line mode. The
third step was to investigate the SFE technique with fatty matrices and to
check if it is possible to trap the components after SFE. A large
difference in the amounts of carbon necessary to trap and separate the
components was found, going from off-line via semi on-line to on-line
trapping. After modification of the SFE conditions it was possible to
extract nearly the total amount of fat from the freeze dried herringfilet
and about 70 till 90 % of the components. A linear restrictor did not seem
to be suitable for the supercritical fluid extraction of fatty matrices,
because of clogging problems. The project has resulted in an better
understanding in the possibilities and use of SFE for the extraction of
organochlorine components from fatty matrices. The project will be
continued using a more suitable SFE instrument.
and Mobility Programme (HCMP). Het onderzoek is uitgevoerd bij het Joint
Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italie.
verschillende matrices.
organochloor componenten in vethoudende matrices.
voortgezet.
