English Abstract
Near the community of Epe, on arsenic containing soil from a depot ecological effects are observed. The arsenic limits the growth of earthworms and the activity of bacteria and algea. Field investigation of vegetation, nematodes and earthworms also show differences between the depot area and the surroundings. However, the effects are small and the uncertainty of this estimation is small. This is the conclusion of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment after an ecological risk assessment of the arsenic in the soil depot.
The arsenic concentration exceeds the maximum allowable value but is also high in the iron rich soil in the surroundings. The behaviour of arsenic differs in the depot from the arsenic in the local environment. Concentrations of arsenic in the soil solution are higher.

Op arseenhoudende depotgrond bij de gemeente Epe (Gelderland) zijn ecologische effecten waargenomen. Het arseen lijkt een remmende werking te hebben op de activiteit van bacterien en algen. Veldonderzoek aan vegetatie, aaltjes en regenwormen laat ook verschillen zien tussen de depots en de omgeving Deze effecten zijn duidelijk aanwezig, maar klein. Dit concludeert het RIVM na onderzoek naar de ecologische risico's van deze arseenhoudende depotgrond.
De concentratie arseen overschrijdt de maximum toelaatbare waarde, maar is bij de ijzerhoudende gronden in de nabije omgeving eveneens hoog. Wel gedraagt het arseen in de depotgrond zich op een andere wijze dan in de natuurlijke omgeving. De concentraties arseen in het bodemvocht zijn hoger.
