English Abstract This report contains the results of an investigation of
radium contents of the soil at the locations Steendijkpolder-zuid, Maassluis
(STPZ) and Woudhoek-noord, Schiedam (WH). The aim of this investigation is
to determine whether the variation of the radium content within a harbour
sludge polder with no topsoil (STPZ) is sufficient to enable quantification
of the relation between the radium content of the soil and the radon
concentration in dwellings. The second goal is to determine whether it is
possible to determine the reduction factor of a topsoil (WH) for radon
infiltration. The results show that in the STPZ the variation of the radium
content within the polder is large enough to justify the expectation that
corresponding variations in radon concentrations will be found. In WH the
assess the effect of the topsoil, WH should be compared to another
location.

Dit rapport beschrijft een onderzoek naar
radiumgehalten dat uitgevoerd is voor de locaties Steendijkpolder-zuid,
Maassluis (STPZ) en Woudhoek-noord, Schiedam (WH). Het doel van het
onderzoek is, voor een met havenspecie opgespoten polder zonder afdeklaag
(STPZ), te bepalen of de variatie in het radiumgehalte van de bodem binnen
het terrein voldoende groot is om hiermee de relatie tussen het
radiumgehalte in de bodem en de radonconcentratie in woningen vast te
stellen. Een tweede doel is, voor een soortgelijke polder met afdeklaag
(WH), na te gaan of het mogelijk is de radon-infiltratie reducerende invloed
van deze afdeklaag te bepalen. Uit de resultaten blijkt dat in de STPZ de
variaties in het radiumgehalte binnen het terrein op zich voldoende zijn om
hiermee samenhangende verschillen in radonconcentratie te mogen verwachten.
De radium-variaties binnen WH zijn echter te klein om hier aantoonbare
variaties in de radonconcentratie te mogen verwachten. Om iets te kunnen
zeggen over het effect van een afdeklaag is het nodig WH te vergelijken met
een andere locatie.
