English Abstract Six compounds were investigated on mutagenicity in
order to obtain information whether they would be responsible for the
mutagenicity of the amino acid pyrolysate 5-phenyl-2-pyridineamine. Of
these compounds 2-acetylamino-5-phenylpyridine was not mutagenic in the
Ames-test. With 2-nitro-5-phenylpyridine,
2-acetylhydroxylamino-5-phenylpyridine and N2-
acetoxy-5-phenyl-2-pyridineamine a mutagenic activity with one or more of
the Salmonella typhimurium strains of the Ames-test was found at quantities
of 50-500 mug per selection plate. Furthermore, no relevant differences in
numbers of revertants were found with the strains TA98, TA98 NR en TA98/1,8
DNP with 2-nitro-5-phenylpyridine. The remaining compounds were not
investigated with TA98 NR and TA98 DNP. None of the investigated compounds
can, therefore, be considered as the ultimate mutagen intermediate compound
on the basis of data obtained in the present
investigations.
