English Abstract
In 2008 intensive poultry farming in the Gelderse Vallei contributed approximately 10 percent to the particulate matter concentrations nearby the farms. The concentrations are similar to those measured at rural monitoring sites of the National Air Quality Monitoring Network (LML) in the Netherlands without nearby intensive poultry farming. The contribution of intensive poultry farming to ammonia concentrations at nearby monitoring stations is estimated 50%, among the highest measured in the LML-network. This is the result of the interim evaluation of the monitoring setup in the agricultural development region (LOG) Gelderse Vallei. The RIVM has conducted this study for the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM) as part of the Program Combined Air Scrubbers (Programma Gecombineerde Luchtwassers).
The Gelderse Vallei is one of ten ADRs in the Netherlands initiated to help reducing the particulate matter emissions from agriculture. In these regions breeding farms are enlarged (intensifying) while partially fading out in other regions. Furthermore technical measures are implemented to reduce the emissions from stables, such as combined air scrubbers filtering particulate matter and ammonia from the exhaust air.
The monitoring results are used as a starting point for assessing the trend of the particulate matter concentrations during the project period 2008-2011. This allows the evaluation of the impact of the technical measures and the intensifying of the breeding activities. In the near future the inventory of activities in the ADR is to be including in the evaluation to enable the extrapolation to other ADRs.

In 2008 droeg de intensieve pluimveehouderij in de Gelderse Vallei voor circa 10 procent bij aan de concentraties fijn stof in de omgeving van deze bedrijven. De concentratie fijn stof in deze regio is vergelijkbaar met die in regionale locaties in Nederland zonder pluimveehouderijen waar het Landelijk Meetnet Luchtkwaliteit metingen verricht. De bijdrage van de intensieve pluimveehouderij aan ammoniakconcentraties was 50 procent. Deze concentraties behoren tot de hoogste van het land. Dit blijkt uit een tussentijdse evaluatie van de opzet van metingen in het landbouwontwikkelingsgebied De Gelderse Vallei. Het RIVM heeft het onderzoek uitgevoerd in opdracht van het ministerie van VROM als onderdeel van het Programma Gecombineerde Luchtwassers.
De Gelderse Vallei is een van de circa tien LOG's in Nederland die zijn ingesteld om de fijnstofemissies uit de landbouw terug te dringen. In deze regio's worden landbouwbedrijven vergroot (geintensiveerd) om hun kracht in deze gebieden te versterken en landbouw daarbuiten af te remmen. Ook zijn technische maatregelen genomen, zoals de gecombineerde luchtwasser die ammoniak en fijn stof uit de lucht in stallen filtert.
De meetresultaten vormen de nulmetingen voor het onderzoek naar fijnstofconcentraties in de Gelderse Vallei dat van 2008 tot 2011 loopt. Met de nulmetingen kunnen de effecten van technische maatregelen en de intensivering van veeteeltbedrijven in de nabije toekomst worden gevolgd. In de toekomst zullen de evaluaties worden aangevuld met specifieke gegevens over de landbouwactiviteiten in het LOG en de mate waarin de technische voorzieningen zijn gerealiseerd. Hiermee kunnen de effecten van het beleid worden beoordeeld en de bevindingen worden geextrapoleerd na andere LOG's.
