English Abstract This report describes the development of a methodology
for determining the attractiveness of land for agricultural production,
which is part of the Decision Support System (DSS) for Rural Areas in the
Netherlands. The physical suitability of soil and climate, economic and
environmental aspects, and interactions with other forms of land use form
the basis for determining the attractiveness. A typology has been developed
to describe alternative types of agricultural production systems. Examples
of descriptions of agricultural system types on the basis of this typology
are given for a number of systems, including dairy production, and mixed
pork and arable production. An initial example of the model's functions has
been worked out for dairy production in a sandy-soil region in the
Netherlands. On the basis of this study a number of recommendations are
given for future research and model and scenario development using the
models CLEAN, DRAM and the Ruimtescanner.
System (DSS) Groene Ruimte.
Ruimtescanner.
