English Abstract In order to assess a diagnose of soil quality in the
Netherlands and to assess effect related norms a method to determine
biological available metal contents is needed. In literature several
methods are described for determination of the bioavailable fraction but
none of these methods is standardized. From this literature review appears
that extractions with unbuffered salt solutions are most suitable for
determination of the bioavailable heavy metal fractions in soil. It is
recommended to select and to standardize a method for determination of the
potential bioavailability of heavy metals in soils. Application of this
method for determination of bioavailable heavy metal fractions in soils is
advised in the National program of soil monitoring in the
Netherlands.
