English Abstract
The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in April 1986 and its consequences were reason for the Dutch government to evaluate and improve the facilities and the preparedness for nuclear emergency management in the Netherlands. The results of the evaluation have been elaborated in operational terms in the National Plan for Nulear Emergency Planning and Response (EPR). At RIVM, in particular at the Laboratory of Radiation Research, the organization for emergency planning and responce, which has been realised in the period from 1988 to 1991, plays a central role in the EPR-organization for technical information. The RIVM emergency organization has to provide technical information which is necessary to advise decision makers about possible countermeasures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the RIVM emergency organization. The tracing of the weak elements in the organization is done by comparing the present situation (January, 1st 1993) with the desirable situation. This resulted in a list of recommendations which will be subject of a RIVM-project entitled 'Development of the Emergency Organization'.
