English Abstract This analysis forms part of a monitoring system to
check on the progress made in realising the objectives laid down in the
Dutch Packaging Covenant (an agreement between the Dutch government and 'the
packaging chain'). It provides information on the amount, composition and
destination of packaging waste from households, the commercial sector and
the industry. The amount and composition of packaging waste originating
from households has been measured for the last 20 years by means of sorting
analyses. Questionaires were used to measure packaging waste from the
commercial and indutrial sectors for 1992-1996. Between 1995 and 1996 the
total amount of packaging waste increased by 3%. The increase was totally
caused by the commercial sector. Compared to 1986 the total amount of
packaging waste increased by approximately 15%. In 1996 about 52% of the
total amount of packaging waste was reused. Glass (72%), paper (62%) and
steel (64%) do score higher than the overall average. Reuse of aluminum
(16%) and plastic (11%) remains modest.
bescheiden.
