Introduction Safe Innovation Approach (SIA) Toolbox

(Note: This SIA Toolbox is a concept version!!)

A workable Safe Innovation Approach (SIA) requires a toolbox to support the Safe by design (SbD) and Regulatory Preparedness (RP) concepts in order to address safety aspects timely and minimize uncertainty about health risks to workers, consumers and the environment.

The SIA Toolbox is a coherent set of tools, guidances and checklists to be used by various actors along the innovation chain, thereby supporting both the improved dealing with new safety issues of innovative nanoparticles (NPs) and NPs containing products and  improved regulatory preparedness.

You will be guided through this SIA Toolbox via 2 questions where you can indicate in which phase of the innovation process you are interested in, and whether you are interested in tools addressing the Risks, Costs, Benefits, or a combination of these elements. After selecting your choice, a list of tools which are applicable for your specific situation will appear.

All nano-applicable tools that are used within NanoReg2 are included in the Toolbox. All tools included in the SIA Toolbox are nanospecific or nano-applicable ánd when formulated criteria can be applied on the tool. The formulated criteria are as follows:
The tool supports safe by design (SbD) (by assessing 1 or more parts of the ‘risk-benefit-cost-triangle’) or regulatory preparedness (RP) or the tool contributes to risk/uncertainty reduction.

The SIA Toolbox is part of the NanoReg2 (NR2) project. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement 64622.
