Each year, on October 15th, hundreds of millions of people from over 100 countries join together in a global effort to raise awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap to prevent diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia.
The power is in your hands
The 2013 Global Handwashing Day theme is "The power is in
your hands," as everyone has the power to create healthier
communities through handwashing with soap. It is important to
wash hands with soap at critical moments, after using the
toilet , before handling or eating food, after working in the
garden, when suffering from a cold or the flu.
Global Handwashing is endorsed by a wide array of governments, international institutions, civil society organizations, NGOs, private companies, and individuals.
