RIVM proposes to adapt the indicative risk limits of the plant protection products florasulam and indoxacarb. These risks limits will provide water managers a first impression of whether substances present in their area are a cause of concern. Because of a new methodology and new data on the toxicity of the substances to water organisms, risks can be better estimated and safety margins can be reduced. The proposed values are an advise to the Dutch Ministry Infrastructure and Water Management who will set the official risk limits.
Florasulam is a herbicide and indoxacarb is an insecticide. These substances are included in the national monitoring network on plant protection products. The indicative risk limits have been revised because new data have become available in the European authorisation dossiers.
Effects on water organisms were the prime focus of the revision. Additionally, human consumption of fish and fishery products was considered when deriving the risk limits for indoxacarb because this substance could accumulate in fish. For both substances, however, the effects on water organisms determined the proposed values for surface water.
