For over one hundred years, RIVM has been applying its knowledge for the benefit of society. That knowledge represents various disciplines, all of which combine to serve the interests of public health and the environment.

RIVM staff are all specialists in a certain field. Nevertheless, they are not ‘pure’ scientists but they combine scientific expertise with a great desire to serve society at large. Knowledge should be of practical use in addressing current social issues such as sustainability, zoonotic diseases or nanotechnology.
The Scientific Annual Report offers an account of RIVM activities in which the focus is on the gathering, collation and dissemination of knowledge. Our knowledge base is maintained through in house research and through close contacts with other knowledge institutes and partners in The Netherlands and abroad.
