Matthijs van den berg is head of Centre for Nutrition, Prevention and Health Services at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVMNational Institute for Public Health and the Environment ).

With our research and advice on prevention and nutrition I want to contribute to a healthier Netherlands.

Matthijs van den Berg studied biomedical sciences at Leiden University and did  research leading to a PhD degree at the VU University Medical Centre on decision making in prenatal screening in 2006.

In the same year, Matthijs van den Berg joined RIVMNational Institute for Public Health and the Environment as a research scientist in disease prevention. His work in the Centre for Public Health Forecasting covered the wide area of public health, with particular attention to public health and healthy lifestyle, and effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. In 2010, he became team leader at the centre for Public Health Forecasting.

In 2013, Matthijs van den Berg was appointed head of the department for Prevention and Nutrition that carries out research on supply, effectiveness, and implementation of public health measures. Research of the department focuses on a healthy life style with specific attention to healthy and sustainable diet and exercise.
