The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVMNational Institute for Public Health and the Environment ) aims to provide high-quality scientific knowledge that meets our clients' wishes and requirements and responds to questions from society as a whole. This means that we have to remain abreast of what is going on in science and the community. We also aim to put the expertise that exists within our organisation to the best possible use.

RIVMNational Institute for Public Health and the Environment 's Chief Science Officers (CSO's) play a major role in this. Their expertise, reputation and many (international) contacts make them eminently suitable for bringing together people and knowledge from inside and outside the organisation.

Direction taken by RIVM

The CSO's are also closely involved in determining the direction taken by RIVM. They advise the management on research to be carried out and are jointly responsible for RIVM's so-called Strategic Programme (SPRStrategic Programme RIVM ). Which means that they act as ambassadors for the further development of (pioneering) scientific research at RIVM.
