Dutch Agreement to Improve Product Composition 2014-2020
In the Netherlands an Agreement has been established on Improving Product Composition that aims to make the healthy choice the easy choice by improving food composition.
Variation in the food composition within food groups provides an indication of the room for improvement for food reformulation. Insight in current food composition may be useful to decide on future actions e.g. to set (voluntary) maximum levels of salt, saturated fat, sugars and/or energy for certain food groups.
Food composition monitoring studies are performed by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) as well as the Dutch Food Safety Authority (NVWA). Monitoring food reformulation is linked with the Dutch Food Composition Database (NEVO) food composition tables as reference.
