I am committed to good public health with equal opportunities for all. RIVMNational Institute for Public Health and the Environment plays a crucial role in the necessary reinforcement of knowledge about health inequalities and the prevention or reduction of these as a basis for effective policy.
Marith Volp studied Medicine at the University of Amsterdam and completed her training as a general practitioner at the VU University Amsterdam. She worked as a GP in Amsterdam Slotermeer from 2006 to 2017. In addition to her work as a GP, she was a teacher at the VUMC GP school and later on worked as policy officer at the National Association of GPs. She was also chairperson of the Association of Dutch Female Doctors (VNVA) for several years.
From 2013 to 2017, Marith was a member of the Dutch parliament for the Labour Party. During this period, she was also GP for one day a week. As a member of the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer in Dutch), she was spokesperson in the areas of healthcare, finance and justice, and for the permanent committees for Health, Welfare and Sport and Justice.
In her previous position, Marith was director of the acute and forensic psychiatry division at GGZ Noord Holland Noord and responsible for more than 550 employees in clinical and ambulatory teams that provide acute and forensic psychiatric care to the residents of the region Noord Holland Noord. As a member of the two-person board of the acute and forensic psychiatry division of GGZ Noord, Holland Noord, she was responsible for business operations, finances, human resource management, cooperation with other divisions within GGZ NHN and external cooperation with regional and national network partners in the fields of healthcare and justice.
Marith is chairperson of the programme committee GeestKracht of FNO, an equity fund that increases opportunities for more health, quality of life and future perspective. Furthermore, she is a member of the Advisory Board of Dokters in Debat (a foundation that teaches young doctors to make their voices heard in the social debate) and chairperson of stichting f6. This foundation teaches young people about politics, democracy and citizenship by organising appealing projects.
