Progress on the COVID-19 vaccination campaign

By Sunday 18 April, it is estimated that more than 4.5 million vaccinations had been administered in the Netherlands. More than 3.6 million of those were first vaccinations, and over 900,000 were second vaccinations. Figures on the COVID-19 vaccination programme are published every Tuesday on the RIVM website. We also publish progress reports in the newsletter on COVID-19 vaccination for professionals. All issues are available online.

Modelling COVID-19

How does RIVM calculate percentages of a coronavirus variant in the infection figures? The answer to this frequently asked question and an explanation on data modelling were published on our website. RIVM’s scientific models are public and accessible. New publications were added on this webpage.

COVID-19 vaccination on BES and CAS islands

RIVM is coordinating the implementation of the coronavirus vaccinations on Curaçao, Aruba and St Maarten and on Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba and is responsible for coordinating the storage and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines on the islands. RIVM publishes a COVID-19 weekly epidemiological update for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Read more.

Looking beyond COVID-19, about the future of our health

This e-magazine offers an overview of the key findings from the c-PHFS: RIVM’s 2020 Public Health Foresight Study in the light of COVID-19. The key messages are clustered into four themes: COVID-19, health, healthcare and the living environment. These four themes describe how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many topics, and may potentially have a future impact in these areas as well. Read the c-PHFS magazine

Sewage as an indicator of health

COVID-19 has led to the establishment of a National Sewage Surveillance programme. Apart from coronavirus monitoring, RIVM examines sewage samples for pharmaceuticals, poliovirus and antibiotic resistant bacteria. And there are many more plans for the future confirms Ana Mara de Roda Husman. Read the article.

Struggling with social restrictions: round 11 of the COVID-19 behavioural study

People are struggling more and more with the social restrictions. There seems to be widespread support for introducing a coronavirus passport or ‘corona passport’. These findings and more were clear from the eleventh round of the survey-based study conducted by the RIVM Corona Behavioural Unit. Read more.

Video on facts and fiction about the COVID-19 vaccine

RIVM’s Cécile van Els, Professor of Vaccinology, discusses facts and fiction about the COVID-19 vaccine in this video. Watch the video.

Safe and sustainable waste recycling

The method developed by RIVM to assess whether waste treatment is sufficiently safe and sustainable can contribute to the European ambitions for a safe and more circular economy. The method provides an assessment framework for assessing safety as well as the contribution to sustainability when processing residual flows into new materials and products. Read more.

2020 Nitrate Report

More nitrogen and phosphorus have been ending up in the soil on farms since 2015. As a result, nitrate concentrations have been rising since 2017 in leachates and ditch water from those farms. Read more.

Interim results for health study in industrial area

RIVM is researching the air quality and health of residents of the IJmond area in the province of Noord-Holland. There are activities in this area, such as Tata Steel’s heavy industry, which impact the environment. More acute health symptoms have been reported to GPs in the IJmond area than in other regions in the Netherlands. Read more about the interim results of RIVM’s study.

European collaboration on implementation of NutriScore label

The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain and Switzerland are collaborating to facilitate the NutriScore nutritional label. NutriScore is intended to assist consumers in making healthier food choices and can also be an incentive for producers to improve their products. Read more.

Study on impact of health on integration

Until now, it was assumed that health plays a role in the successful completion of integration by asylum status holders. RIVM research shows that there is indeed such a connection. Status holders who struggle with poor physical or mental health face greater difficulty completing their integration course. News in Dutch.
