Abstract

An Environmental Chemistry Data System (ECDS) is being developed in the Laboratory for Ecotoxicology (ECO) in order to process more quickly and sufficiently environmental properties of chemicals. In this report the first achievement is described, i.e. an in DataPerfect (DP) format written relational database which will accommodate approximately 1000 chemicals in the near future. This data is partly the result of experimental research in ECO, partly it has been derived from connections established the last decade while carrying out scientific advisory work on ecotoxicology. The ECDB is developed as a DP application and as such is suitable to search data and to report results to facilitate both advisory work and future research programmes such as the ECO-EF/EB project programme (Environmental Forecasting/Environmental Balance) and studies into the field of environmental chemistry, focussing on the relationship between the molecular structure and/or a basic physico-chemical property and the environmental fate. The system is a flexible design and allows adoption of or insertion into other database systems.
