As of Wednesday, 17 August 2022, the National Heatwave Plan is no longer in operation. Although the period of persistent heat is over, temperatures will remain high over the coming days. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and RIVM will remain alert to new periods of persistent heat.
The National Heatwave Plan was in operation in all provinces from Wednesday, 10 August 2022 until Tuesday, 16 August 2022. RIVM uses the National Heatwave Plan to inform organisations, professionals and informal caregivers about the expected heat. They can then take this into consideration in their support and interaction with vulnerable groups like the elderly and small children. It allows them to take appropriate measures to limit heat burden and avoid health problems.
