This video explains the cervical cancer screening programme in simple terms, in English.

Animatie

You are invited to take part in a free cervical screening. It is a test to check the health of your cervix. This is known as a Pap smear, or a smear test.
Sometimes cancer can develop in your cervix, but this is very rare. If it does, you will not notice it yourself. But the doctor can see if there are any cells that could become cancer.
It can usually be treated. Early detection makes it easier to treat. And this improves your chance of getting better. That is why cervical screening is important.
Would you like to take part in this screening? Call your general practitioner (GP) for an appointment. In Dutch, your general practitioner is called a 'huisarts'.

You can read more about the smear test in our leaflet. You can also visit our website.
