This is the first monitor on the national program for breast cancer screening (BVOK-BK) in the Caribbean Netherlands. This report is a summary of the key findings from the first year of the BVOK-BK on Bonaire (June 2021–June 2022).

Key findings are:

  • In the first year, 995 women took part (945 of whom gave consent to use their data)
  • The referral rate in the first year was 3.6%
  • The detection rate was 0.4%
  • The positive predictive value was 13.8%

    The government of the Netherlands commissioned the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) to implement the population screenings on breast-, colon-, cervical cancer on the three islands of the Caribbean Netherlands.
