The Dutch Society for Radiation Protection (NVS) has awarded its Joh Aten Grant 2015 to Teun van Dillen of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) for his work on the SUDOQU methodology. This methodology can be used for calculating the radiation dose from exposure to ionising radiation from surface-contaminated objects used by workers and/or members of the public.
Young Professional Award
The NVS also submitted Teun van Dillen’s name for the Young Professional Award granted by the International Radiological Protection Association (IRPA). This prize will be awarded in 2016 during the international conference of radiation experts in Cape Town.
SUDOQU
SUDOQU is a new and innovative methodology for calculating the effective dose from exposure to ionising radiation, for people who have come into contact with objects contaminated at the surface with radioactivity. This methodology can be used by policymakers and radiation experts to determine limiting values for surface contamination and associated radiation screening levels for such objects.
RIVM supports the Dutch Government in protecting citizens, patients and workers against the harmful effects of ionising radiation. We do so by conducting research and providing policy advice; in this way, RIVM creates a bridge between science and society.
