Professor J. (Hans) Brug has been appointed director-general of RIVM per September 10, 2018. The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of Minister Ollongren of the Interior and Kingdom Relations in the Netherlands. Brug succeeds Professor André van der Zande who will leave RIVM by the end of June to enjoy his retirement. Van der Zande has been Director-General since 2011.
Hans Brug is currently Dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. Before his present position, he has worked as Dean and member of the Executive Board at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. Previously he held the position of director of the EMGO Institute for Health and Care Research in Amsterdam.
Brug obtained a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University and a PhD in Health Sciences at Maastricht University.
His appointment was achieved through the procedure for the Senior Civil Service's top management group.
