AstraZeneca has adjusted the delivery schedule. As a result, the Netherlands – and all other EU (European Union) member states – will receive fewer vaccines in the next two weeks (week 8 and week 9). In total, this involves more than 217,000 doses that will be delivered later. To compensate, the manufacturer has announced that there will be an extra delivery of 211,000 doses at the end of week 9 (on Sunday 7 March).
Due to the minimum number of vaccine doses reserved in stock, the updated delivery schedule will not have any consequences for vaccinations in the upcoming week (week 8). However, the combination of the shift in volumes and the manufacturer’s delay does mean that no AstraZeneca vaccines can be supplied in week 9 to the vaccination sites operated by the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs), or to GP practices and mental healthcare institutions. This shift does not have any impact on the appointments already scheduled with the GGD in weeks 8, 9 and 10. New appointments will not be scheduled for this time period for now.
Vaccines intended for GGD vaccinations in week 8 will be divided over weeks 8 and 9. The vaccinations scheduled from week 8 at the GP practices in the province of Noord-Brabant can also go ahead as planned. New regions will be added starting in week 10. The delivery for the mental healthcare sector in week 8 will be carried out as planned. RIVM will consult with the GGD, GPs and mental healthcare institutions regarding the best way to deliver vaccines from week 10 on.
Deliveries of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the vaccination sites are expected to resume in week 10. People who have received an invitation can make an appointment for week 10 and following.
