Starting next week, eligible people who are not mobile enough to come to a vaccination site will be vaccinated at home. The GP will vaccinate them using the AstraZeneca vaccine. The vaccines will be delivered in phases per province. Drenthe will be the first province to receive extra vaccines for this target group.

Around 70,000 people in the Netherlands are not mobile enough to travel to a vaccination site, with or without assistance. This includes elderly people who cannot be transported to a vaccination site. Home vaccination will also be deployed for people in the medical high-risk group due to neurological disorders accompanied by respiratory compromise, such as ALS or Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The GPs in Drenthe will receive extra vaccines for this group at the end of this week. Next week, deliveries will be made to GPs in North Holland, Overijssel, Groningen and Friesland. Other provinces will then start vaccinating eligible people living at home who are unable to travel, once enough vaccines have been delivered to supply those doses as well.

Major delivery from AstraZeneca: more vaccines to northern provinces

Thanks to a major delivery from AstraZeneca, all the GPs in the provinces of Noord-Holland, Overijssel, Groningen and Friesland can place their orders this week. They will not only be vaccinating people born in 1956 and 1957, people with a BMI over 40 and people with Down syndrome, but also people born in 1958, 1959 and 1960. The northern provinces will also receive additional vaccines to vaccinate people living at home who are unable to travel. The GPs will receive the vaccines for these groups next week. These vaccination invitations will be sent by the GP. The other provinces will be supplied with new vaccines as soon as sufficient quantities are available again.

Hospitals will receive extra vaccines

In January, 40,000 care workers providing direct COVID care in hospitals were vaccinated. On Wednesday, hospitals will receive another delivery of about 39,500 vaccine doses. These vaccines are intended for previously unvaccinated employees involved in direct COVID care. They will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine. The vaccines will be delivered to 72 hospitals on Wednesday.

Schedule for the vaccination campaign

The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) determines the order in which groups are vaccinated. The advisory reports of the Health Council of the Netherlands are used as guidance. The start date for vaccination of the various target groups depends on vaccine availability. For the latest order of vaccination, please visit Government.nl.
