As a senior scientist at RIVM, Prof. Agnes Oomen is involved in research on exposure, kinetics, hazard and risks of chemicals and materials. Her focus is the potential effects of these substances, or a mixture of substances (cumulation), on the human body. In addition, Oomen contributes to methods to prevent problems in terms of safety, sustainability and planetary health, and that regulatory frameworks for chemicals are as prepared as possible for future developments, such as in the field of nanomaterials and advanced materials.
Furthermore, Oomen is a professor by special appointment of Chemicals and Planetary Health at the University of Amsterdam (UvA)’s Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics.
Oomen loves working as part of a team on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research at the intersection of policy and science, as well as on topics that are relevant to society. She coordinates or contributes to a range of national and international projects and is a member of various working groups of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), co-chair of the Steering Group on Advanced Materials of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and member of the Scientific Advisory Council of MilieuCentraal.
