In 2025, the Erasmus MC (Erasmus University Medical Center) conducted an in-depth analysis on the broader implementation of the self-sampling kit (SSK) within the cervical cancer screening program. Since July 2023, the SSK has been automatically sent with the invitation to all individuals aged 30. For age groups 35 and older, the SSK is sent with the reminder letter if there has been no response to the initial invitation (12 weeks after the initial invitation). Additionally, the SSK is offered as an equivalent option alongside the conventional the smear in the invitation letter and the brochure. The impact of the broader use of the SSK on participation in the cervical cancer screening program and on program outcomes has been investigated. A summary of this analysis can be downloaded below.
