The Scientific Advisory Board of RIVM commissioned an audit of the COVID-19 data analytics and modelling for scientific advice to policy makers. This audit was performed by an external international audit committee, who presented their evaluation and strategic recommendations in their scientific audit report.

In response to the scientific audit report of the external international audit committee on COVID-19 data analytics and modelling for scientific advice to policy makers, the RIVM reflects on the provided evaluation and strategic recommendations, and indicates how the recommendations will be addressed: Response RIVM on Audit COVID-19 data analytics and modelling for scientific advice to policy makers (2023)

The external international audit committee based its conclusions on a hybrid site visit week in March 2023, during which the audit committee interviewed RIVM representatives and experts, external experts, and external stakeholders.
The site visit programme is included as appendix 1 in the scientific audit report  of the audit committee.
In preparation to the audit and the site visit, the external international audit committee received the following documents:

  • A self-evaluation report compiled by RIVM: Document for audit committee - Self evaluation report Scientific audit 2023 COVID-19 data analytics and modelling.
  • A stakeholder evaluation report written by an independent agency: Document for audit committee - Stakeholder perceptions of the COVID-19 modelling.
  • The purpose and criteria of the audit are described in the ‘Terms of reference’ document: Document for audit committee - Terms of Reference Audit COVID-19 data analytics and modelling.

SARS-CoV-2 is the coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19. The symptoms often resemble the common cold at first. Some people do not become ill at all, or are only mildly ill from the virus. Others may become seriously ill and sometimes even die from the disease. Sometimes people get post-Covid and have persistent long-term symptoms. Vaccination protects against severe illness, and may prevent any symptoms from developing.
