    How to cope with heat? The National Heatwave Plan in the Netherlands is designed to protect vulnerable groups such as the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and young children during periods of hot weather. The plan recommends checking on these individuals, making sure they have enough to drink, keeping living spaces cool, and watching for signs of heat-related illness like headaches or dizziness. The plan is activated by the RIVM when prolonged or extreme heat is expected, based on factors such as daytime and nighttime temperatures, humidity, and wind chill. When the plan is active, healthcare providers and carers receive extra guidance, and the public is encouraged to look after each other, especially those at higher risk.
